It's safe to say Yellowstone National Park is still looking good at the ripe old age of 150.The park, which stretches into Wyoming,Montana, and Idaho,is known for its unique natural scenery, bountiful wildlife, and deep history. It also helped usher(引領)in the broader national park movement in the U.S.,according to Chuck Sams, the director of the National Park Service.
"We now celebrate something much bigger than the park itself -the beginning of the national park idea,an idea that spread through the country and around the world, inspiring governments to protect natural and cultural treasures 'for the benefit and enjoyment of the people,'" he said in a statement.
Yellowstone is home to the largest concentration of mammals in the lower 48 states.Bears, wolves, coyotes, moose, and a large population of small animals can be found in the park. It's also the only place in the U.S.jye.ai bison(野牛)have lived continuously since prehistoric limes. It was looking risky for a period in the 1900s,when die animal was hunted down from a previous high of tens of thousands to less than two dozen. This bison conservation effort continues to this day.
Yellowstone shut its gates in March 2020 due to coronavirus concerns and remained closed for nearly two months. But the park broke attendance records after it reopened. The park reported 4.9 million recreation visits in 2021 - up 28% from 2020 and making it the busiest year on record,July 2021 was die most-visited month in Yellowstone's history and the first lime visitation exceeded l million visits in a single month. It's Yellowstone's natural beauty and deep history that brings millions of visitors each year.
"Yellowstone's 150th anniversary will be an important moment in time for the world," said Yellowstone Superintendent Cam Sholly. "It's an opportunity for us to reflect on the lessons of the old days while focusing our efforts to strengthen Yellowstone and our many partnerships for the future."

          • 1.Seeing a volcano erupt is a wonderful experience, and you can really feel the heat by climbing to the summit(山頂) of Pacaya for a close-up view. There are guided tours every day up this highly active volcano from Antigua, giving travelers a chance to see Mother Nature at her most powerful.
Pacaya is an easy drive from Antigua,a beautiful city with many colorful houses along its old streets that are turned into art-works during its Holy Week Festival. No matter when you come to Antigua, you won't miss the Pacaya-tour companies.
But climbing Pacaya is no easy job,it is 2,560 metres high, and reaching the summit takes two to three hours of seemingly one step forward and two-step back movements. As you climb, you hear the dull sounds of eruptions high above.Steaming, hot remains from recent eruptions begin to line the path as you near the active summit:the McKenney Cone(火山錐).Just as though you are going to walk over to the edge of the cone, the road turns to the left and up to the relative safety of the old, inactive summit.
Many tours are timed so that you arrive at the cone of the volcano in plenty of time for sunset and the full contrast between the erupting red lava and the darkening sky.On a good day the view from the summit is extremely exciting. The active mouth boils, sending red lava over its sides, and once in a while shoots hot streams up to 100 metres into the air. There is a strong bad smell in the air even if you take care to be upwind of the cone.As evening turns deeper into the night, the burning lava quietly falls down the side of the volcano. For you,too ,it is time to get down.

          • 3.The sky is a large place, and though it has been carefully examined for centuries, new features still turn up.Last March it was the rule of Uranus(天王星),and last week astronomers announced what may turn out to be a new planet, though a very small one,in the solar system.
The object was first sighted last month by Charles Kowal,an astronomer at the Hale Observatories in Pasadena,Calif.Mr Kowal observed a faint trail of light on photographic plates, indicating that something was moving in relation to the background of stars.Other observers have confirmed the discovery.
The "mini-planet",identified for the time being as "Object-Kowal",appears to be about 1.5 billion miles away, between the orbit of Saturn and Uranus, and its diameter(直徑)has been estimated at between 100 and 400 miles. Its orbit has not been determined yet,but if the orbit proves to be roughly circular, like that of the major planets, the new object would probably take 66 to 70 years to make a circuit of the sun.
Some astronomers have speculated that Mr Kowal's discovery may be the first indication of an asteroid(小行星)belt beyond Saturn.
