Are Chinese people turning away from reading books？
China now has the largest publishing industry．But the book-reading rate in China，actually dropped from 60.4% in 2000 to 54.9% in 2013．According to a survey，Chinese citizen read an average of 4.39 books in the past year．And，on average，Chinese people spend just over 15 minutes a day reading，but almost 100 in watching television and over 45 in using the Internet．
Xin Hua News Agency reports that 80% of the books people buy are textbooks and examination preparation books．"Best sellers in China today are mainly cookbooks，health and fitness guides，test-preparation books，and romance novels，"said He Xiongfei，a well-known publisher．"Some of people buy books just for the purpose of killing time or for test preparation．They are looking for things they think are useful to them．They are not reading，"he added．
