19．One day in a hot summer，we couldn't stand the heat，so it seemed like a good idea to go to the beach.My oldest brother，Black，agreed to drive my younger sister，Mary and me to the beach for the day.
We drove with the windows down，and the radio playing.I sat in the front，and the wind saved me from the heat as it blew through my hair.We parked near a beach we had never been to，but it didn't matter because I love the beach-any beach.
As soon as we carried all our things down to the sand，I ran to the water and stood there，letting the waves wash over my feet.Then I dove in and swam while the water rushed over my body.It felt icy cold at first，but it didn't matter because the sun was so hot.
The waves were big and powerful that day.I wasn't the best swimmer and didn't know how to tread water （踩水） because I had taught myself to swim，but I thought I could swim pretty well.Soon Black and Mary joined me，and we had a lot of fun together.When Black got out of water，Mary and I continued to jump into the waves，and slowly we drifted （漂流） further away from the beach.
Suddenly，it got hard to swim back toward the shore.As I began to struggle，I saw Mary's face just above the water.The waves were crashing over her head，and she was shouting when she wasn't swallowing water.I tried to swim quickly to her，knowing that I had to be my fastest or she could die.Finally，I got close enough to grab （抓住） her.I stopped swimming and tried to put my feet down，but I couldn't reach the bottom.That was when I really began to feel fear.
