2.Before the camera was invented, the natural world was recorded in paintings and sketches (素 描)by artists like John James Audubon.
As a boy growing up in France,Audubon loved the woods and enjoyed hanging out in the wild, collecting avian(鳥類的) curiosities-bird nests and eggs-and made simple drawings. After a period of failed service in the navy, his father sent him to America.
While his father hoped his curious son would make something of himself in mining or some other enterprises,John Audubon was consumed with the natural world. His other main interest was young Lucy Bakewell, who was also enthusiastic about the natural world.Soon, the two fell in love with each other and got married.
Awakened by the need to provide for his wife and children,Audubon tried his hand as a store owner yet failed. His next business also failed. Then he learned fishing from his friend and earned a living by selling fishes. But he got into debt soon. When Audubon paid his debts off,he decided to follow his original passion. He set off into the wilderness, carrying little more than some basic necessities and drawing materials. There,at last,he found his calling in life.
Audubon usually stayed for months at a time in the wilderness, rising long before dawn to observe and returning in full light to paint all afternoon. At one point,he lost over 200 drawings, his entire collection, when rats found their way into his cabin and chewed them up.Again,he started over, just like how he reacted to business failures. After 14 years of tramping(長途跋涉)in the wilderness with his pen and ink,he had his collection of drawings. But the popularity of avian drawings was slow to catch on in America.Still,he refused to give up.He earned enough to pay for the passage to Europe to take his chances there.
Fortunately,he was well received in England. His 435 original works came to be known as the greatest picture book ever created:The Birds of America.Eventually,John Audubon opened our minds not only to the beauty around us but also to the beauty of possibilities- if we just keep trying.
(1)What do we know about Audubon as a little boy?

B.To support his newly formed family.
C.To learn from other businessmen.
D.To follow his father's dream.
(3)How did Audubon probably feel after losing all his drawings?
A.Stuck and puzzled.
B.Discouraged and hesitant.
C.Determined and hopeful.
D.Angry and pitiful.

3.Beer seldom lasts long, and sometimes there is can or bottle leftover after a party. When this occurs, the leftover can be used in a variety of ways, many of which most people would never think of.
Beer is a surprisingly good wood furniture polish.Let a can of beer go completely stale(不新鮮)and pour a little onto a soft cloth.Polish your furniture with the cloth and follow up with a dry cloth. You will be amazed at how shiny your furniture will end up looking.
The slug(蛞蝓蟲)is a terrible pest in the garden, particularly if you are growing plants for eating.Instead of using chemicals on your vegetables, bury a small cup in the garden and pour fresh beer in it.The slugs will be attracted to the smell, get drunk and drown.Be sure to refresh the beer daily, and you would have a cup full of slugs and healthy-looking cabbages.
Bees are also attracted by the smell of beer,so try putting a few open beer cans around the yard at your BBQ and you can enjoy BBQ in a nature-like garden.Obviously you should put the cans away from where people will be sitting or standing, and make sure that no one decides to drink from one of the cans when they are drunk-it will result in a very unpleasant situation.
Beer is also an excellent skin conditioner. If you want to have a long bath, pour a good can of dark beer into the water in advance. This is a nice substitute to salt which softens water. Also if you have a stomach upset, slowly drinking a can of beer can help to settle it down. The alcohol in the beer can help to ease the pain.
(1)From the first paragraph we know that
A.beer can have a long quality guarantee period
B.people often make leftover when drinking beer
C.most people ignore the use of the beer leftover
D.beer cans or bottles can be recycled in many ways
(2)Taking the example of the two insects, the author tries to tell us
A.some insects prefer the smell of fresh beer
B.the beer in open cans can be more attractive to insects
C.slugs and bees can be harmful to picnickers
D.pouring some beer on plants can drive insects away
(3)The author believes that dark beer can
A.help soften water
B.be used to replace salt
C.prevent stomachache happening
D.ease the pain after drinking alcohol
(4)What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.Polish your furniture with beer.
B.Improve your garden with beer.
C.Try to drink beer in a healthy way.
D.Learn to make the most of beer.組卷:1引用:2難度:0.5
