19.A Win-Win Experience I was a shy person and always doubted my ability.Two years ago,I went through a training program and became a volunteer.The job was to help those who cannot read and write.When I began to teach,I discovered what other people's lives were like because they could not read.
My first student Marie was a 44-year-old single mother of three.In the first lesson,I found out she walked two miles to the nearest supermarket twice a week because she didn't know which bus to take.When I told her I would get her a bus schedule,she told me it would not help because she could not read it.She said she also had difficulty once she got to the supermarket because she couldn't always remember what she needed.Since she did not know words,she could not write out a shopping list.Also,she could only recognize items by sight,so if the product had a different label(標(biāo)簽),she would not recognize it as the product she wanted.
After learning about Marie's situation,I decided to teach her names of daily necessities first.I would start my lessons by encouraging her to give each item in her kitchen a sticker with its name on it.She would hesitate for a while before sticking the right name during the first periods.I knew learning vocabulary can be difficult,especially for a middle-aged woman,so I came up with the idea of making up stories with the new words she learnt and wrote them down in the notebook.
As we worked together,learning how to read built Marie's self-confidence,which encouraged her to continue in her studies.She began to make rapid progress and was even able to take the bus to the supermarket.After this successful trip,she reported how self-confident she felt.
注意:
(1)續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右;
(2)請(qǐng)按如下格式在答題卡的相應(yīng)位置作答。
At the end of the program,she began helping her youngest son,Tony,with his reading.______
As she,full of confidence,described this experience,I was proud of myself as well.______組卷:10引用:2難度:0.6
