2.When students walk into Jenny Umland's class, they don't automatically go to the same seat they sat in the day before. In her classroom at Riverdale Heights Elementary School,Lowenstein's are allowed to sit wherever they want.Umland doesn't assign seats. In fact, she has done away with most of the regular desks and uses beach chairs, standing desks, and rocking chairs instead.
Riverdale Heights is one of a growing number of schools that have ditched assigned seats. Many teachers say letting kids choose where to sit helps them learn how to make good choices. Some teachers point out that students are often more comfortable speaking up when they're sitting near kids they like the most.
"If kids are happy and comfortable, they are more willing to learn." says Umland. After 19 years of teaching, she tried non-assigned seating for the first time this year. She says she'll never go back.
But not all teachers are ready to do away with their seating charts. Some say having assigned seats helps students focus on their work, instead of where they'll sit.One teacher from Texas thinks letting students sit wherever they want can create chaos.Assigned seating helps keep classrooms under control.Without specific seats to go to,students may argue over who gets to sit in the best spots. He often finds it hard to work in that environment.A more controlled classroom leads to better learning.Maybe what he says is reasonable.A 2012 study by Montana State University found that high school students did better on tests when a teacher assigned their seats.
A student,Jack, from Lowa, thinks he and his classmates should be comfortable when they learn. He says, "My teacher,Mrs.Umland, allows us to choose our own seats, and it's great!I used to be terrified of sitting in the same seat every day, which made me uncomfortable all over.Being allowed to sit wherever I want makes me more enjoyable, because I can sit where I'm most comfortably." And Umland says, "The setup in my class helps kids get along better. If two students want to sit in the same spot, they have to talk it out and compromise."
(1)What do we know about Umland?

B.She is strongly against non-assigned seating.

3.In today's world, most workers are highly specialized, but this specialization can come at a cost -especially for those on the wrong team.New research by Harvard's Growth Lab uncovers the importance of teams and coworkers when it comes to one's productivity, earning potential, and stays of employment. The research analyzed administrative data on the 9 million inhabitants of Sweden. It found that to earn high wages and returns on education, workers must find coworkers who complement(補足),but not substitute them.
The research offers a tool to assess the right and wrong coworkers in fields of expertise. The right coworkers are those with skills you lack, yet needed to complete a team. The wrong coworkers are those who have the same skill set as you and eventually lower your value to the employer. For example, those with a degree in architecture are best assisted by workers with engineering, construction,or surveying degrees, and negatively impacted by those with landscape or interior design degrees.
"We tend to think of skills as something personal that individuals can market to a company, " said Frank Neffke,Growth Lab Research Director, "However, this vision of skills is too simplistic. One person's skills connect to another person's skills, etc.,and the better these connections are,the more productive workers will be,and the more they will earn." Neffke adds that the benefits of working with complementary coworkers are not the same for all workers. Those with higher levels of education seem to benefit much more from working in complementary teams than workers with lower levels.Over the past 20 years, workers with college degrees or higher have been increasingly able to find better matching coworkers.
Complementary also drives careers. The research shows that people tend to stay longer in organizations with many complementary workers and tend to leave those with many workers who substitute them. These results hold true for up to 20 years of one's career.
The research also supports several well-known facts, such as cities and large firms pay higher wages.Workers are more likely to find better fitting teams in cities, and large firms often allow workers to specialize.
(1)Which group of workers can make up the best team?
A.Those who can substitute each other.
B.Those who come from the same place.
C.Those who are expert in the same field.
D.Those who have the complementary skill.
(2)Who may be the best complementary coworker for an architect?
A.A landscaper.
B.A house agent.
C.A constructor.
D.Another architect.
(3)Employers think more of their staff's
A.dependence relationship
B.struggling spirit
C.physical quality
D.educational level
(4)What can be the best title of the text?
A.What workers your employer need most
B.How coworkers impact the value of your skills
C.How coworkers get higher wages and a long-term job
D.How complementarity improves your mental potential組卷:3引用:2難度:0.6 -
4.One after another, telecommunications giants have announced their latest fifth generation (5 G)products. They have also claimed that 5 G technology would be used on a massive scale by 2020.Yet,when reporting about 5 G,many domestic media outlets have described it as a "much faster" technology than 4 G without mentioning any of its other advantages. As a result, the common public view about 5 G is that they could "download a high-density movie within one second".Beyond that, most people know nothing about 5 G.
Actually,5 G technology has many more advantages than 4 G apart from speed.According to the criteria of 3 GPP,an international standardization organization,5 G technology can be used for at least three purposes-for connecting everything, reliability of connections, and eliminating(消除)delays.
"Connecting everything" is an appropriate slogan for 5 G technology, without which the Internet of things would be impossible.5 G would enable one server to connect to multiple terminals(終端)and thus establish high-speed coordination among them, and help the chips inside the terminals to timely react to meet people's needs.Take for example, autonomous vehicles, which are mature technology products.Self-driving cars combine a variety of sensors, such as radar, computer vision, and GPS to identify navigation paths and obstacles.5 G technology will link all the elements of a transportation system, such as traffic lights, cameras and,of course, cars to establish perfect coordination so they can avoid obstacles and move on navigation paths, which will help strengthen self-driving technology.
Reliability of connections is another essential characteristic of 5 G technology, whose use can be extended to other fields where high safety standards are required. For instance,in certain surgeries, surgeons insert nano-robots inside a patient's body and have to maintain constant control over the robots to ensure they perform their functions and do not cause any harm to the patient. This is an technology that can be of great help,as it can establish reliable and continuous connections between the monitor and the nano-robots.
(1)Which can also serve as an example of "connecting everything"?
A.Improvement of smart phone signals.
B.Decrease in telecommunication cost.
C.High speed in playing computer games.
D.Online tests for all members at the same time.
(2)Why can 5 G be used in fields with high safety standards?
A.It can attract most eyeball on a massive scale.
B.It can provide dependable and constant service.
C.It offers massive machine type of communication.
D.It employs 4 G base stations and occupy less space.
(3)What will the author most probably discuss in the paragraph that follows?
A.Eliminating delays.
B.5 G network capacity.
C.Disadvantages of 5 G.
D.Building 5 G base stations.
(4)What would be the best title for the passage?
A.5 G Technology:More Than about High Speed
B.5 G Technology Will Shape the Future of Connectivity
C.Telecom Giants Work Together to Better 5 G Technology
D.Advantages and Disadvantages of 5 G Technology and Products組卷:5引用:2難度:0.5
