          • 1.Here,our selection of Britain's strangest museums has something for everyone.
                Glasgow Riverside Transport Museum
The museum houses steam engines, motorbikes,Glasgow buses and just about anything else that has a set of wheels, wrings or sails. One of the last tall ships in existence is moored (停泊) outside, and you can take a boat there from Govan. For those not in love with transport, there's a copy of a 19th-century Glasgow street with traditional shops and an old subway station.
Entrance is free and for children of all ages.
                The Natural History Museum,Hertfordshire
The Victorians were mad about collecting, and this is essentially the personal collection of just one home-educated boy, which began when he was 5 years old.But as a member of the Rothschild family,Walter took 40 years to do it.There's just about every stuffed animal you could ever imagine, and quite a few you couldn't:a polar bear;George,a mandrill (山魈) from London Zoo and a four-ton elephant seal.
                Entrance is free.
                The Pencil Museum1,Cumbria
It is a museum all about the history of the everyday pencil. There are free daily artists' demonstrations and workshops,so you can enter from one end of the museum and go out with a drawing from another end.The lovely Lake District location adds to the experience and the wonderful shop is especially enjoyable for stationery (文具) lovers.
                Entrance:adults £8,children £6.
The Time Machine Museum of Science Fiction,Hertfordshire
This is the result of 30 years of crazy collecting by Andy Glazzard. There are artworks from sci-fi classics, but most of the museum artworks center on Doctor Who.

          • 2.    Bessie Mae Kelley was an animation (動畫) pioneer, yet much of her story and work was lost to history and left undocumented—until now.The incredible discovery of Kelley's rich past was made by Mindy Johnson, who spent five years searching for evidence.
According to Mindy Johnson,Kelley was studying art at New York's Pratt Institute, when,as a part of the first generation of cinema, she fell in love with the medium.Kelley began working in the industry doing menial jobs, but she worked her way up and she was eventually working alongside Max Fleischer,Paul Terry and Walter Lantz, animators who were household names.
Kelley hand-drew cartoons in cooperation with Paul Terry for his famed animated adaptation of Aesop's Fables, including the mouse couple that came to be known as Milton and Mary. "Even Walt Disney publicly stated that when he began his studio in Kansas City,he wanted to make cartoons as good as Aesop's Fables," Johnson said.
And earlier this week,Johnson presented her discoveries at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, where she also premiered (首映) two restored short films hand-drawn and directed by Kelley. The first is a five-minute film entitled Flower Fairies, completed in 1921.The second three-minute film from 1922 is called A Merry Christmas.Previously, historians had considered Tissa David to be the earliest example of a woman who directed her own hand-drawn work Bonjour Paris in 1953.The earliest surviving animated film directed and animated by a woman would be Lotte Reiniger's The Ornament of the Lovestruck Heart from 1919,which is far from the hand-drawn variety.
Johnson, who teaches animation history at California Institute of the Arts and Drexel University, says, "Discovering Kelley's contribution to animation isn't just about filling in the gaps of history. It also motivates a new generation of animators.I can see my female students standing a little taller and more confident, about their work when they learn about Kelley."

(1)What does the underlined word "menial" in paragraph 2 mean?

            A.Unskilled.
            B.Demanding.
            C.Well-paid.
            D.Risk-taking.
(2)What does the author want to show by mentioning Kelley's work on Aesop's Fables?

            A.Her fondness for animals.
            B.Her good teamwork spirit.
            C.Her early influence in animation.
D.Her close relationship with Walt Disney.
(3)Which is the earliest-known animation hand-drawn and directed by a woman?

            A.Bonjour Paris.
            B.Flower Fairies.

D.The Ornament of the Lovestruck Heart.
(4)What does Johnson think of the discovery of Kelley's role in animation?

A.It excites students' interest in history.
B.It is an inspiration to female animators.
C.It helps reexamine women animators' work.

          • 3.    T.O.Fuller State Park in Memphis,Tennessee, has been loved for generations and has always been a ground where community has come first.Back in 1938,it was the first park east of the Mississippi river to open for African American visitors.Over 80 years later, the park is continuing its forward-thinking tradition, this time, through a pioneering sustainability project.
A new walking and biking trail has been built through this historic park.Illegally dumped (被丟棄的) tires are not only unpleasant to see,but they're a dangerous addition to the environment.Rubber, like plastic,is a material that won't naturally decompose. In a place as hot as Tennessee, these dumped tires often begin to melt and release these harmful gasses into the air.Fortunately, the old tires were sent to Patriot Tire Recycling in Bristol,TN,the only facility in the area that can break down tires in an environmentally sound way. There, the collected tires were safely broken down into the crumble (碎屑) rubber that was eventually used to pave the new trail.
TN State Parks explained how the trail's construction, which has been in development since 2019,was a joint effort.Officials from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the City of Memphis,Shelby County, and Memphis City Beautiful were all involved in funding this recycling project.
These officials named their initiative the "Tires to Trails" project.Workers from these departments, alongside some 450 volunteers, came together to collect over 24,000 tires that had been illegally dumped in the area around the park to be recycled.
"This is a perfect example of recycling in full circle, collecting dumped material, then converting it into positive use," David,a leader of the project, said in a statement.

A.It is a popular park with a good tradition.
B.It is the first park welcoming all visitors.
C.It is a park west of the Mississippi river.
D.It is a modern park without biking trails.
(2)Why are dumped tires a dangerous addition to the environment?

            A.They are ugly to see.
            B.They release harmful gasses.
C.They are made up of plastic.
D.They could only be used to pave the new trail.
(3)What does David mean in the last paragraph?

A.It is the park's responsibility to recycle.
B.The park is built on dumped materials.
C.The park successfully recycled dumped tires.
D.It is possible to turn everything into useful things.
(4)Which of the following is the best title of the text?

          • 9.Raju's family was the smallest family on the coastal line of Kanyakumari.Raju was 10 years old.He was tall, dark and handsome and had a lot of dreams. He had always dreamt of living in a city.He was always his dad's charm,as he was not quite happy to spend time with his mom.All he could remember about his mom was her scars, red and white scars on her face, neck and hands. He always felt unpleasant to see his mom's face. But what he did not know was that his mom scratched her beauty to save him from a fire when he was one year old.Not wanting to burden him with it,Raju's parents kept it a secret.
His mom Kamala used to drop him to school and pick him up every day.He felt awkward to see his mom with that scarred face standing in front of the school gate.As he was laughing and chatting with his fellow school mates, all of them became silent and started staring at the gate. So,Raju turned towards the gate with a lot of curiosity. He froze when seeing his mom, face covered with a piece of cloth.Raju felt ashamed and rushed out of the school with lots of anger.
With days passing by,Raju started to dislike his mom more.He did not like to get picked up or dropped by his mom.He felt that she was ugly and so abnormal. As he grew old,he stopped going out with her to the market or anywhere outside.Kamala tried her best to make her son happy, got him everything that he wanted and gave him his space. She understood what her son was going through and felt pity for herself and sad for her son,as she was helpless.
When Raju turned 15,he was sent to a city high school 67 kilometers away from his coastal village. The very thought of not being with his ugly mother made him very happy.
Three years later, then came Raju's graduation ceremony. His parents didn't want to be absent from such an important occasion,so they managed to be there without informing Raju.
