1.A very old man went to live with his son,daughter-in-law,and a four-year-old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was not clear, and his step became weaker. The family ate together nightly at the dinner table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult.Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and the daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess."We must do something about Grandfather," said the son."I've had enough of his spilt milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor." So the husband and the wife set a small table in the corner. There,Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner at the dinner table.Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two,his food was served in a wooden bowl.Sometimes when the family glanced at Grandfather,he had tears in his eyes as he ate alone.Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp(嚴(yán)厲的)when he dropped a fork or spilt food. The four-year-old boy watched it all in silence.
One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps(碎片)on the floor. He asked the child sweetly,"What are you making?" Just as sweetly, the boy responded,"Oh,I am making little bowls for you and Mum to eat your food in when I grow up." The four-year-old boy smiled and went back to work. The words struck the parents so they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks.Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. That evening the husband took Grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table.
Let us all be wise builders and role models.Take care of yourself and those you love today, and every day!

2.Once a circle missed a wedge(楔子).The circle wanted to be whole,so it went around looking for its missing piece. But because it was incomplete and therefore could roll only very slowly,it admired the flowers along the way.It chatted with worms. It enjoyed the sunshine. Finally it found a piece that fit perfectly. It was so happy. Now that it was a perfect circle,it could roll very fast, too fast to notice flowers or talk to the worms. When it realized how different the world seemed when it rolled so quickly,it stopped, left its found piece by the side of the road and rolled slowly away.
In some strange sense we are more whole when we are missing something. The man who has everything is in some ways a poor man.He will never know what it feels like to hope and to nourish(滋潤(rùn))his soul with the dream of something better. He will never know the experience of having someone who loves him give him something he has always wanted or never had.
There is wholeness about the person who has come to terms with his limitations, who has been brave enough to let go of his unrealistic dreams and does not feel like a failure for doing so.There is wholeness about the man or woman who has learned that he or she is strong enough to go through a tragedy and survive一he or she can lose someone and still feel like a complete person.
Life is more like a baseball season, when even the best team loses one third of its games and even the worst team has its days of brilliance. Our goal is to win more games than we lose. When we accept that imperfection is part of being human, and when we can continue rolling through life and appreciate it,we will have achieved wholeness that others can only long for.
