          • 2.    With summer just around the corner, hot weather is sure to flow.It means that staying hydrated (含水的) while exercising or working outdoors is a must. But many people don't drink enough water or are even aware of how much or little they are consuming.A company lsrael named ImpacX has a solution for that,a new smart water bottle that tells you when you have to drink.
It relies on a smart cap that measures how much water is left in the bottle and reminds you to drink by vibrating(振動),changing colors,or sending a message to your phone. All the technology fits into the ordinary locking bottle cap. What ImpacX has developed is a kind of smart packaging platform that incudes three elements.
First, the technology that tracks the water level is embedded (嵌入) in the cap.The amount you drink is worked out by sending a beam of light inside the bottle and then measuring how long it takes to reach the cap.But the second element is even more impressive. The smart cap is connected to an app that helps you personalize your hydration needs. You need to input your weight and age. And,you can even connect your smart bottle to a fitness app."If you have a particular target, let's say you practice some sport activity or you want to meet some other goals, there are particular modules in the app that you can say,"I'm now about to run," or you can even connect it to your sports tracker.
ImpacX has launched the smart bottle in Israel and plans to introduce it into other counties. The company has already signed an agreement with a sports drink company.
Staying hydrated is serious business and smart water bottles can help you stay healthy and feeling your best even in the summer heat.

(1)How does the smart water bottle remind users to drink?

            A.By making a nice sound.
            B.By connecting to an app.
C.By changing colors of the water.
D.By sending a message to the phone.
(2)What do we know about the three elements of the smart packaging platform?

A.The technology that tracks the water level is placed on the cap.
B.The smart bottle can not be connected to a workout application.
C.The amount you drink is worked out by measuring the temperature.
D.Your need to input your weight and age to meet your hydration needs.
(3)What can we infer from paragraph 4?

A.The smart bottle may have a bright future.
B.The smart bottle is still being tested in Israel.
C.The smart bottle has been on sale in several countries.
D.The smart bottle is just intended for sports drink companies..
(4)What is the text mainly about?

A.The functions of the smart cap.
            B.The importance of staying hydrated.
C.The introduction of a new smart water bottle.

          • 4.Comets orbiting(圍繞……運動)a distant star have been found to contain water, and it is the first time the factor considered key to life has been discovered in objects circling a star other than our sun.
The discovery, announced by scientists Wednesday, adds weight to the theory that other planetary systems may be similar to our own and may contain chemicals that are essential to the formation of life as we know it.
Scientists have no way of knowing whether life ever existed on any comets or planets orbiting this particular star, known as CW Leonis and located some 3,000 trillion miles (4,800 trillion kilometers)from the Earth in the constellation Leo(獅子座).
But they are sure that no life could exist there now. That is because as it burns out the last of its nuclear fuel, the star has swallowed and increased in brightness, swallowing nearby objects and melting comets in orbits as distant as Neptune(海王星)is from the sun releasing the water that astronomers spotted using a radio telescope in other space.
"It's funny that the existence of these bodies is measured through their destruction," said Gary Melnick, chief scientist on the project and an astronomer at the HarvardSmithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge,Massachusetts.
Mr.Melnick said the discovery was of particular importance because if there was a pool of water farther from the star, there could have been water closer to the star, supporting the idea that life may have existed outside our solar system.
Comets are believed to have helped build life on Earth,Mr.Melnick and other scientists said.Besides bringing water to the oceans, they are also thought to have transported important chemicals as they flew quickly through the Earth's atmosphere in past long time.
"Comets are some of the smaller bodies in the solar system and form the seeds of planets themselves,"said Saavik Ford,a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University who first suggested that the water may have come from steaming comets."The fact that we found water is interesting because it is a necessary condition for the formation of life."
This discovery is causing many discussions in the science world, which especially makes astronomers excited.Perhaps it will bring us more new ways to think of the space and other things. It seems that we have gone further in exploring space than before.

            (1)According to the passage,water
            .
A.is the necessary matter of life
B.is the necessary matter of chemicals
            C.has transported important chemicals
            D.comes from comets
            (2)What does this discovery suggest?

A.We do better than before in the search of water.
B.We do better than before in the search of rare things.
C.We do better than before in comets.
D.We do better than before in studying space.
(3)Which one of the following statements is TRUE?

A.This discovery is causing many panics.
B.People think that comets have helped build life on Earth.
C.The discovery was cancelled by scientists Wednesday.
D.Mr.Melnick said the discovery wasn't of particular importance.

          • 8.閱讀下面短文,根據所給情節進行續寫,使之構成一個完整的故事。
I live in a small but lovely neighborhood. Our house is neither large nor luxurious, but it has a fairly big garden. My father loves his garden. He planted some seeds in it and took good care of the plants, watering them, applying fertilizer, weeding and getting rid of bugs.He was never tired of doing all that stuff. But at that time,I didn't understand why working in the dirt excited him so much.
Unfortunately,in the summer vacation before senior high school,my father was seriously injured in an accident. He had to stay in bed for a while. My mother had several business trips,so she couldn't take care of the garden.I didn't want my father to worry.I said that I would take care of his garden until he recovered.I assumed that the little plants would continue to grow as long as they had water, and luckily it rained fairly often,so I didn't think much about the garden.
One Saturday morning,my father said to me, "Christine, the vegetables should be about ready to be picked.Let's have a salad today!" I went out to the garden and was upset to see that many of the lettuce (生菜) leaves and carrots had been half eaten by bugs. There were hundreds of bugs all over them!
I panicked for a moment but then I quietly went to the nearest supermarket to buy some vegetables. When I was making the salad,my mother came home and saw the bag from the supermarket in the kitchen.I was embarrassed and admitted, "Dad would like a salad, but the garden is a disaster.I don't want to disappoint him,so I went to the store and bought some vegetables." My mother smiled, saying, "Honey, you know what is the right thing to do."

My father seemed very pleased when I took the salad to him.______
Feeling guilty,I decided to do the right thing.______
