1.Coach your favourite sports to poor children in schools.Help these children to get a structured sporting education and see their joy as they pick up new skills. If that's not enough sport for you,you can even get involved in playing with local teams in your evenings and weekends.
Description
As a volunteer sports coach, you and your group will head to 3 schools each day to coach your chosen sport of a variety of them.Sports coaching volunteering involves not just teaching the kids, but also acting as a good role model.Children are aged about 10-13 and are often new to playing sport in a structured environment. You don't need to be 3 top player to take part (though any champions are welcome)--it's your advanced personality and drive that will make the biggest effects.
Which sports can I coach?
Sports coaching volunteers can choose to specialize in coaching just one sport, but often we find that it is best to combine several sports for more variety. The freedom to choose between different sports makes the weeks even more diverse.Follow the links to find out about each sport
Accommodation

2.David Frank started working for tips when he was 11 years old, delighting restaurant diners in New York with his magic tricks. As a teenager he would make an average of ﹩60-70 in an evening-not bad,but he wanted more.So he started reading research on tipping, and found a study showing that servers who left a sweet at the end of the meal could up their pay.He tried handing customers a playing card at the end of his act, which he hoped would persuade them to part with more cash.It worked.
Mr.Frank's findings confirmed the notion of the tip as a sort of reward for outstanding service. For a start, economists are puzzled by the fact that so many people give tips, voluntarily handing out cash for a routine service, when it is assumed that customers generally want to pay as little as possible for what they buy.But fuzzier factors also seem to matter, like the feelings of gratitude that Mr.Frank inspired.A Survey in 2010 by Ofer Azar of Israel's Ben-Gurion University of the Negev found that 85% of American tippers claimed to be following a social pattern, while 60% said they tipped to avoid guilt.
During the pandemic these fuzzy factors appear to have strengthened.Mr.Lynn observed that people have been tipping more generously even while ordering take-away food.
The presence of a pandemic or of a magician performing at one's table are just two of many factors that may affect the size of a tip.A tipper may simply be touched by the server. If a waiter squats down beside you at the table as he or she takes your order, that often brings a higher tip.Good weather may encourage generosity too.Race can be an uglier factor.A study of tips for cab drivers found that black drivers were tipped on average at a rate of 13%,while white drivers got 20%.
(1)Why did David Frank hand customers a card?
A.To delight the customers.
B.To provide the best service.
C.To satisfy their needs.
D.To increase his income.
(2)What do we know about the tipping fact?
A.Customers want to pay as few tips as possible.
B.Most tippers in America tip because others tip.
C.Tipping is the best way to show gratitude.
D.Tipping is usually included in the bill.
(3)Why does the author mention "take-away food"?
A.To indicate take-away food is more popular during pandemic.
B.To persuade readers to order take-away food in pandemic.
C.To emphasize that people tend to give more tips in pandemic.
D.To explain there's no need to tip in terms of take-away food.
(4)What can we infer from last paragraph?
A.The pandemic makes tips unaffordable.
B.The customers' mood influences their tipping.
C.Tipping has nothing to do with weather.
D.There are more white drivers than black ones.組卷:1引用:2難度:0.5 -
3.Chinese cuisine is widely known and enjoyed all around the world.Who doesn't long for a favorite Chinese dish? But there is one interesting concept concerning Chinese food which is almost unheard of in the West, and which is becoming increasingly ignored by the youth of the East-the ancient custom of "tonic food".
Tonic food is food which is consumed to improve one's well-being or avoid sickness. For instance,it was once the custom for new mothers to eat a sesame oil (麻油) hot pot every day for the first month after giving birth. It was believed that this dish would benefit the muscles, reduce pain, improve circulation, stimulate sweating, and warm the body. Some foods, such as goat meat and spinach, are seen as "hot",while others, such as Chinese cabbage and radish, are seen as "cold".One should be careful not to eat too much of either "hot" or "cold" food. However, how much "hot" or "cold" food one should eat depends on the time of the year, how the food is prepared and what it is prepared with, and the individual's health.
The custom of employing tonic foods for a healthier life also influences the catering industry.Chinese herbal medicines, such as wolfberry (枸杞),can be found on many a restaurant menu, either added to fruit tea or as a beneficial addition to a dish. These herbs attract customers, such as over-worked office staff,in need of a modest pick-me-up.
So,whether you need to boost your strength with a large helping of chicken soup,or increase your mental powers with a serving of pig's brain soup, you may find that this ancient Chinese custom could be just the tonic you were looking for.
(1)What is the present situation of tonic food?

4.Do you have full confidence in your memory? There has been a discussion about whether it is shi or si in the sentence "Thus when Heaven is about to confer a great office on any man..." ("故天將降大任于是/斯人也").Most people chose si as what they learned at school. However,People's Education Press,a leading publisher of Chinese textbooks, claimed on Oct 26 that all its textbooks say shi.
Supporters of si feel shocked and say they've experienced the "Mandela Effect" - the situation in which a large number of people believe that an event occurred when it didn't.Many people believed that former South African president Nelson Mandel died in the1980s in prison. However,Mandela was alive and well, eventually passing away in 2013.US researcher Fiona Broome set up a website to explain her observation of this phenomenon first, coining the term.
Some often joke that our memories have been changed by a strange force. In fact, psychologists have looked into the reasons for the Mandela Effect,as reported on the US-based website Verywell Mind. For example, your mind may fill in gaps missing in your memory to make more sense of it,which is called confabulation(虛構癥).However, try not to feel bad - this is not lying, but rather remembering details that never happened.
The Internet may be another reason why we have Mandela Effect events,as the news we read can be false from the begjye.ainjye.aig.In 2018,Science journal published a study of over100,000 news stories discussed across Twjye.aiter.It showed that false news can spread faster and reach more people than the truth. As a powerful way to spread information, the Internet might be the main reason for falsehoods to enter our minds.
(1)What's the author's purpose of telling the saying "Thus when Heaven is …"?
A.To show our memories can be wrong.
B.To provide solutions to the discussion.
C.To raise readers' interest in the discussion.
