          • 11.The Oceanix project, started by designers, architects(建筑師)and engineers from different countries, has taken an important step forward.Last month, they signed an agreement with Busan(釜山),the South Korean city,to host the first of its floating neighborhoods off South Korea's coast. The planned "floating city" could eventually accommodate 10,000 people, offering coastal areas a solution to the threat of the rising sea levels.
The neighborhoods will be set on floating platforms, each of which houses 300 people in buildings up to seven stories high. They can be arranged into larger networks, connected via walkways and bicycle paths;in theory, they can join to form a wider 10,000-people Oceanix City, which has everything from restaurants and co-working spaces to urban farms and entertaining facilities.
According to the design, the neighborhoods are "self-supporting":they are able to produce their own food and energy with "zero waste." They will use wind and solar energy, and grow bamboo for the construction of new buildings.Fresh water will be produced on the platforms, too, with rain water collected, stored and treated.
South Korea's southern coastline, where Busan is located, has experienced worse flood damage than anywhere else in Korea in the past decade. It is warned that the city's famous Haeundae Beach could disappear by 2030.
According to the agreement, the first Oceanix neighborhood in Busan will complete, with people living in it,by 2025.Busan's mayor Park Heong-joon welcomed the agreement, saying, "We need a new vision where it is possible for people, nature and technology to co-exist."
The director of the project,Maimunah Sharif, described Busan as the "ideal" location for the project. He added, "Instead of fighting with water, let us learn to live in harmony with it."

A.Forming a team of international experts.
            B.Reaching an agreement with Busan.

            B.Expensive in living cost.
            C.Limited in daily activities.
            D.Comfortable in housing conditions.
(3)Why does Busan favor the project most probably?

D.It is home to the Oceanix project.

Olive oil has also been an important product in the business and culture of Mediterranean countries. In ancient Greece, for example, anyone who cut down an olive tree was heavily punished.Winners at the Olympic Games wore wreaths(花環).They were made of olive branches(樹枝).Sometimes winners were also given a prize of olive oil.People from ancient Greece built ships so that they could use olive oil for trade. But it was the Romans who grew the olive tree in the rest of southern Europe and northern Africa.

          • 13.Covered in lush fur,the thickest in the animal kingdom, sea otters(海獺)can live their entire lives in the ocean, feeding heavily upon seafloor animals such as shellfish. They are often seen to eat clams(蛤),which bury themselves in meadows of eelgrass(大葉藻場),a wide-ranging plant species growing in water.Eelgrass meadows where sea otters dig for clams become partly bare, which is commonly a concern for ecologists.
As it turns out,the meadows with otters are healthier, with more eelgrass, according to a new study published in Science. That's because by gently disturbing the seabed, the otters make the plants flower and produce seeds. What's more, their digging provides more space and sunlight for seeds to settle and grow. The enhanced genetic diversity caused by sea otters could make eelgrass more adaptable to present and future threats.
The finding is a powerful example of how animals such as otters influence their ecosystems beyond predation(捕食),often in unseen and little-known ways, says study leader Erin Foster,a research associate at the Hakai Instjye.aiute.It also means sea otters,an endangered species, are vital to their environments and give eelgrass, which is in danger worldwide,a better chance at staying healthy and surviving.
Seagrass habitats are also important for many fish, providing food for animals, absorbing, and filtering harmful pollution and bacteria from the water. "Genetic diversity typically strengthens the adaptability of species, and considering the challenges we're facing…this will be important for eelgrass meadows, and from this aspect, the impact the otters are having deserves our lasting concern," says Foster.

(1)What do we know about sea otters?

A.They live part of their lives underwater.
B.They mainly feed on sea animals like fish.
C.They eat clams beneath eelgrass meadows.
D.They become a new concern for ecologists.
(2)How does the author develop paragraph 2?

            A.By giving opinions.
            B.By presenting reasons.
            C.By clarifying concepts.
            D.By comparing results.
(3)Why does the author mention the endangered condition of eelgrass?

A.To provide examples of sea otters' predation.
B.To show the urgency to protect the environment.
C.To highlight the role of otters in their ecosystems.
D.To warn against the potential risk of climate change.
(4)What does Foster think of the impact otters have on underwater meadows?

            A.Overestimated.
            B.Noteworthy.
            C.Temporary.
            D.Unpredictable.

The idea for the lollipops, her company's first product, came to Alina back in 2012,when she was just 7 years old.It all started when she went to a bank with her dad Tom and a teller offered her lollipops.Though she really wanted to accept, she remembered how her parents bad told her that sugar was terrible for her teeth. So she asked her dad,"Why don't we make a healthy lollipop that's good for my teeth so I can have candy, and it won't be bad for me?"
Two years of online research,at least a hundred attempts at making lollipops in their home oven and many plant tests later where they tested their creations on commercial(商業的)production equipment Alina and her father got their first meeting, and finally their first retail(零售)placement, with Whole Foods Market. 第二節(共1小題;每小題10分,滿分10分)根據短文內容,從短文后的選項中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項.選項中有兩項為多余選項.

          • 15.Have you used "um…" "like…" "you know…" in your speech?Catch words(口頭禪) are unnecessary words used to fill up dead paces while you speak.Speaking too many catch words is like a bad habit that we are unaware of.While most people tend to ignore it in everyday conversation,in a formal speech or an interview, too many catch words can make even the best presentation look bad. (1)

Stop when we are in doubt.Catch words are used more often when a person is unsure about the sentence to use next. (2)
If you are lost or in doubt over what to say next, just stop speaking, take a long pause, breathe in,figure out what to say and start again.
Speak consciously and slowly. If the speech is too long and you talk continuously without thinking, they you might also be pushing in a few catch words in between. (3)
It is best to memorize the tricky parts of the speech, like the introduction and the conclusion where a majority of the catch words are used.
               (4)
Preparing for the speech is very important when trying to remove catch words.Make it a point to pause when there is a comma or give two pauses at the end of the sentence. If certain words in the speech need to be emphasized then underline them and practice them as they need to be said.
Avoid catch words in conversations.Get a friend or your partner to help you out when rehearsing a conversation. (5)
Although it can be an unpleasant and often embarrassing process, but in the long run it helps in cutting down on catch words.

A.Practise your speech when you can.
B.Remember the saying that silence is golden.
C.Therefore we can find out best friends to guide us well.
D.Anytime you use a catch word, the friend can point it out.
E.So we should learn some ways to avoid speaking such words.
F.Structure the speech well to include as much information as is needed.
G.The mind is so busy trying to figure out what to say that there is a strong urge to speak such words.
