9.I went on a whale-watching tour when I was on holiday in Hervey Bay.It was amazing. The captain stopped our boat 100 metres from where two humpback whales(座頭鯨) were playing. The crew on our whale-watching boat told us,the passengers,to make a lot of noise and wave our arms to attract the whales interest. It sure did.Two adult humpback whales came right up to our boat, swam under it and around it,and floated alongside, looking at us.The whales were so close we could have reached out to touch them. We could see other boats and whales in the Bay.All whale-watching boats have to follow strict rules to protect the whales. The rules were established by the Environment Protection Agency. The rules state that if one boat is within 300 metres of a whale no other boat is allowed to approach the whale.Boats are not allowed to approach any whales head-on,get between any whales in a group,or separate a mother from her baby, and they have to be careful not to bother the whales in any other way.Helicopters aren't allowed for whale watching and other aircrafts have to stay 300 metres away. All these are in the interest of whales safety. While on the tour I learned that humpbacks travel through Hervey Bay again on their way back south to Antarctica to feed on krill(磷蝦).Obviously the Antarctic winter is too cold for whale babies because they don't have enough blubber(鯨脂) yet to survive there. The humpback migration from Antarctica up the Queensland coast is one of the longest migrations in the animal kingdom and the journey to Antarctica is dangerous and tiring for whale babies. The baby travels following its mother and drinks her rich milk to fatten up.Older whales don't usually eat anything as they migrate. They must be very hungry by the time they get back to Antarctica! Our boat had a special microphone so we could hear the males singing. It was unbelievable.I love whales. They are beautiful and playful.

11.Visitors to this year's Smithsonian Folklife Festival can explore the music, history, art and food of Wales. This small country in the United Kingdom is known for its music, sports, beautiful natural areas and ancient history.Visitors to the festival can also learn about the country's language and industry. Visitors to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival can start their exploration of Wales by learning about its native language,Welsh.Welsh is one of the oldest languages in the world. The first lesson to learn is the Welsh word for Wales:Cymru. Festival visitors can learn more from Iona Hughes,a Welsh teacher in the country's capital,Cardiff.Welsh and English are now the official languages of Wales. But the English people did not always support the use of Welsh.Today, about twent percent of the population of Wales speaks the language fluently.Iona Hughes said, "It's quite wonderful to see how the language has developed and how the language has grown especially in the last thirty years.I remember as a child actually saying that Welsh was a dying language, and now I'm proud to say that actually it isn't-it's a thriving (旺盛的) language." The Welsh people are serious about language and the spoken word. They hold competitions to celebrate their language in literature and music. Wales is also known for its natural beauty. It has hundreds of lakes and over one thousand kilometres of coastline. 19.Do most British still keep the traditional activities such as afternoon tea? Clearly you have been watching too many episodes of Downton Abbey.Anyway, afternoon tea is a snack between lunch and dinner (1)
(accompany)by a cup of tea.We regular British people drink tea and eat snacks (2)
we feel like it-8 a.m.,9 p.m.,2 a.m..In my house while I was growing up,we would have a big dinner at lunch time(weekends mainly)and then tea later. This would consist of a sandwich and a piece of cake that we ate in front of the telly. We were so full from the enormous lunch (3)
all we could manage was small meal.Even now the meal after work/school is called tea whether you drink tea with it or not,and whether it consists of sandwiches or is a main meal. However,if we visit someone in the afternoon (4)
planned, they will make some scones, cake, sandwiches and other delicious food to be served and I suppose that is technically"afternoon tea".If they were inviting you for dinner, they would say so.If they say nothing, you will absolutely be offered tea and scones/sandwiches/biscuits or (5)
else they have. Times and tastes (6)
(change),but afternoon tea still exists. Children come home from school at 4 p.m..Parents will make them a drink and something to eat.Mum and Dad will probably join in.What do you call this?Afternoon tea! I go shopping with friends to the town centre. We've looked in all the shops and now we need to sit down and think about (7)
shops to return to for those final purchases.Look at that,it's almost 4 p.m..It may be that we sit down for a cappuccino and a couple of macarons but I can only think of one way to describe this…Afternoon tea! We're in the office.Boring! (8)
we've more or less finished for the day,the clock says no.Someone puts the kettle (9)
and we sit down for a chat about the next few days.Ooh someone found a box of cupcakes…Wow!We've just had …afternoon tea! We (10)
not be using flowery teacups. We're not dressed like characters from Downton Abbey either. We may not sit there for two hours. But do we still stop at 4 p.m.for a drink and something to eat?YES!
