11.There is an old joke among pilots that says the ideal flight crew is a computer,a pilot and a dog.The computer's job is to fly the plane. The pilot is there to feed the dog.And the dog's job is to bite the pilot if he tries to touch the computer.
Handing complex tasks to computers is not new.But recent progress in machine learning,a subfield of artificial intelligence (AI),has enabled computers to handle many problems which were previously beyond jye.aim.The result has been an AI boom, with computers moving into everything from medical diagnosis and insurance to self-driving cars.
There is a problem, though.Machine learning works by giving computers the ability to train themselves, which adapts their programming to the task at hand.People struggle to understand exactly how those self-written programs do what they do.When algorithms(計算機程序)are doing small tasks, such as playing chess or recommending a film to watch, this "black box" problem can be safely ignored. When they are deciding who gets a loan,or how to drive a car through a crowded city,it is potentially harmful. And when things go wrong, then customers, regulators and the courts will want to know why.
For some people this is a reason to hold back AL France's digital-economy minister,Mounir Mahjoubi, has said that the government should not use any algorithm whose decisions cannot be explained. But that is an overreaction. The difficulties caused by clever computers are not unheard- of.Society already has plenty of experience dealing with problematic black boxes;the most common are called human beings, who can't even figure out what's going on in a brajye.ai.In response to the weakness in humans, society has evolved a series of workable coping mechanisms, called laws, rules and regulations. Many of these can be applied to machines as well.
Humans have worked with computers on complex tasks for decades. One lesson from such applications is that, wherever possible, people should supervise(監督)the machjye.aies.In that joke, pilots are vital in case something happens that is beyond the scope of artificial intelligence. As computers spread, companies and governments should ensure the first line of defence is a real person who can overrule the algorithms if necessary.
(1)Why is the joke mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A.To make people laugh.
B.To foresee future aeroplane industry.
C.To introduce the latest model of aeroplanes.
D.To raise people's awareness of computers performing complex tasks.
(2)What has caused the increasing application of computers in various fields?
A.The shortage of labor force.
B.The rise of artificial intelligence.
C.The encouragement of government.
D.The development of medical economy.
(3)Why are some people opposed to AI?
A.Black boxes always go wrong.
B.Laws forbid machine learning.
C.They don't understand how AI works.
D.Computers are trying to replace human beings.組卷:9引用:1難度:0.6 -

14.The hike to the lost Incan city of Choquequirao is one of the most difficult in Peru. From the town of Cachora, which is 161km west of Cusco,it's an 18km walk to Capuliyoc Mountain, then down to Playa Rosalina, where travellers camp for the night.Waking early, travellers then have to cross the Apurímac River and walk uphill to camp close to the ruins. Then, the next morning,it's another 2km walk up to the ruins,3,100 m above sea level. To get back?Well,it's the same way you came.
"I've had people in their 60s and 70s do it," said Juan Barrios,a guide from the Adventure Life company. "But some people come out thinking that because it's only 28km from the drop off they can do it in a day.Six or seven days for the hike is best."
It makes sense, then, that Choquequirao draws only about 30 people a day during the high season(June through August).Compare that to the 2,500 people who arrive each day at the famous Incan city of Machu Picchu.
But for those who make the journey, the rewards(回報)are great:beautiful mountain views at every turn, and the chance to explore the wonderful ruins nearly alone.
Believed to be created around the same time as Machu Picchu,in 1445,Choquequirao is actually larger than better-known Machu Picchu. But very little has been written about Peru's other lost city and researchers are still uncovering new parts of the ruins, leaving life on the mountain relatively untouched.
But officials say that the building of the first cable car(纜車)to Choquequirao will shorten the several-day walk to a 15-minute cable car ride.As a result, the number of travellers that now make the journey each week could turn into 3,000 visitors per day.
Choquequirao is beautiful now because of how untouched it is.Even though the lost city was discovered by Spanish explorer Juan Arias Díaz in 1710,the ruins still make you feel as though you're the first to find them. Will it be the same when more travellers flood in (大量涌入)?
(1)What does the first paragraph centre on?
A.How tall Choquequirao is.
B.How to get to Choquequirao easily.
C.What great views Choquequirao has.
D.How hard the trip to Choquequirao is.
(2)In what way is Choquequirao different from Machu Picchu?
A.Choquequirao is older.
B.Choquequirao is quieter.
C.Choquequirao is smaller.
D.Choquequirao is better known.
(3)How are the ruins of Choquequirao?
A.They're still being dug out.
B.They're in a generally poor condition.
C.They're being renewed at the moment.
D.They've been researched internationally.
(4)What does the author think of Choquequirao in the future?
A.It will be more attractive.
B.It will develop at a slow speed.
C.It won't necessarily take a turn for the better.
D.It won't be more popular than Machu Picchu.組卷:105難度:0.5

When I was a child,we lived next door to the Schonfield Home,People who got too old to take care of themselves lived there.I was a regular visitor and enjoyed spending time with the old people there.
One day,a very old lady named Mrs.Kurtz moved to the Schonfield Home. She seemed sad all the time. For days,I had never seen her smile or laugh. My parents learned that she had no family or friends.
Weeks later,I was visiting the home again. And I saw her sitting alone, looking unusually depressed(消沉的).Mrs.Smith,one of the old people told me that Mrs.Kurtz had turned eighty-nine,and that she was upset to be celebrating another birthday all alone without any cards or gifts. She truly believed there was no one in the world who loved her.
This moved me deeply, and I started to create a plan in my mind.I ran home and raced to my room.I took out my piggy bank that I always valued. And I poured out all the money that I had received on birthdays and other special occasions.I had been saving money for a new bike.Although the money wasn't enough to buy a bike,it was enough for what I wanted to do then.
I raced down the stairs. My mother was cleaning the house.I walked to her and explained what I was about to do.And she smiled at me proudly. She planted a kiss on my cheek and said, "I must be the luckiest mother in the world to have such a caring daughter." My mother stopped what she was doing.
