          一、閱讀理解(每小題8分,共4小題,共計30分)

          • 1.Today the word friendship has been used so often that it has lost its meaning. Some jokingly or seriously say that friends are made to be used.It makes me very sad.
True friendship doesn't mean that when you need your friend's help, you will treat him to dinner, and when you have to protect yourself, you will put your friends in a difficult situation.
In fact, true friendship is the communication and understanding of the hearts.
True friendship is like water.Compared with decent wine, water is tasteless, but is of great help when we are thirsty.True friends don't need to be with each other every day,but are connected in heart every minute.
True friendship is like medicine.Though it is bitter,it cures your illness.True friends give you some suggestions even if they know you would not take. They criticize you when others have a good word for you,not because of envy but worrying that you may lose your cool head.
True friendship has nothing to do with fame, power or money.True friends would often watch you silently far away when you are influential, but come to you whenever you need their help. You're not his stepping-stone to success, but are his crutch(拐杖;支持物)to live through difficulties.
True friends make you complete. Many persons go along with you through your life-your parents, your spouse(配偶),and your children ,who take care of you and make your life happy. However, you still need someone who understands your thoughts and souls.Without them, you are likely to be unhealthy in spirit.
True friends stay in your heart, rather than at your side;they know you more than yourself, and try to better you.

          • 2.The forest of today will not be the forests of tomorrow.Rising temperatures, trees being cut down, development and climate-change-caused disasters are changing the very makeup of the Earth's forests, new research published in Science finds.
Older, bigger trees are being lost at an alarming rate, making the planet's forests shorter and younger. The change is being driven at different rates by different causes in different places, the study's authors say,but the consequences will be global.
Old growth forests absorb and store massive amounts of climate-warming CO2.They provide habitats for rare and endangered species and promote rich biodiversity.Researchers found that the world lost roughly one-third of its old growth forests between 1900 and 2015.In North America and Europe, they found that tree mortality(死亡率) has doubled in the past 40 years.
"Warming temperatures, wildfires, logging and insect outbreaks were among the many causes of the decline," says Nate McDowell, the study's lead author. "What's perhaps more concerning is that the trajectory(發展軌跡) of all these disturbances is generally increasing over time and is expected to continue increasing in the future." he says.
McDowell's focus is on how trees are affected by rising temperatures, arguably the biggest driver of forest change. To get a broader understanding of how forests are changing globally,he brought in more than 20 other researchers in different fields.Together, they examined more than 160 previous studies about tree mortality and its global causes, applying current satellite data and modeling to create a look at the Earth's changing forests to date.
"It's not a shock, but it's very sad," says Kristina,an ecologist and leader of the ForestGEO Ecosystems &Climate Program who helped with the research. "We as a human society are hitting these forests so rapidly with so many different changes that they can't keep up." she says.

(1)What can we know from the figures in the paragraph 3?

A.More trees should be planted in no time.
B.We are losing old growth forests quickly.
C.Forests are important habitats for wildlife.
D.Different trees can absorb CO2 differently.
(2)What can we say about McDowell's research?

            A.Timely and long-standing.
            B.All-sided and careful.
            C.Time-limited and regional.
            D.Traditional and extensive.
(3)What's Kristina's attitude towards the findings of the research?

            A.Worried.
            B.Optimistic.
            C.Supportive.
            D.Indifferent.
(4)What's the writer's purpose of writing the passage?

A.To call on people to plant more trees.
B.To discuss the influence of climate change.
C.To warn against the loss of old growth forests.
D.To compare forests of today with those of the future.

          • 3.When students walk into Jenny Umland's class, they don't automatically go to the same seat they sat in the day before. In her classroom at Riverdale Heights Elementary School,Lowenstein's are allowed to sit wherever they want.Umland doesn't assign seats. In fact, she has done away with most of the regular desks and uses beach chairs, standing desks, and rocking chairs instead.
Riverdale Heights is one of a growing number of schools that have ditched assigned seats. Many teachers say letting kids choose where to sit helps them learn how to make good choices. Some teachers point out that students are often more comfortable speaking up when they're sitting near kids they like the most.
"If kids are happy and comfortable, they are more willing to learn." says Umland. After 19 years of teaching, she tried non-assigned seating for the first time this year. She says she'll never go back.
But not all teachers are ready to do away with their seating charts. Some say having assigned seats helps students focus on their work, instead of where they'll sit.One teacher from Texas thinks letting students sit wherever they want can create chaos.Assigned seating helps keep classrooms under control.Without specific seats to go to,students may argue over who gets to sit in the best spots. He often finds it hard to work in that environment.A more controlled classroom leads to better learning.Maybe what he says is reasonable.A 2012 study by Montana State University found that high school students did better on tests when a teacher assigned their seats.
A student,Jack, from Lowa, thinks he and his classmates should be comfortable when they learn. He says, "My teacher,Mrs.Umland, allows us to choose our own seats, and it's great!I used to be terrified of sitting in the same seat every day, which made me uncomfortable all over.Being allowed to sit wherever I want makes me more enjoyable, because I can sit where I'm most comfortably." And Umland says, "The setup in my class helps kids get along better. If two students want to sit in the same spot, they have to talk it out and compromise."

(1)What do we know about Umland?

A.She insists on arranging regular desks.
B.She is strongly against non-assigned seating.
C.She has failed in teaching in the past 19 years.
D.She lets students in her class choose their own seats.
(2)Which of the following can replace the underlined word "ditched" in paragraph 2?

            A.tried on
            B.looked forward to
            C.got rid of
            D.prepared for
(3)What does Jack think of the Umland's seat setup in her class?

            A.It is cozy.
            B.It is terrifying.
            C.It is controversial.
            D.It is uncomfortable.
(4)What's the best title for the text?

A.What Role Do Students Play in Class?
            B.Should Students Have Assigned Seats?
C.Students Are Required to Listen Carefully in Class
D.Assigned Seats in the Classroom Are Popular Now

          • 4.Cheating (作弊) can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat,it's not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who the true winners of a game were.
Many people like the action of cheatjye.aig.In their opinion,it makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn't solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won't help on the next test —— unless the person cheats again.
Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of jye.aim.The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they shouldn't get that good grade. And,if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and maybe at home, too.
Some kids cheat because they're busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying.Other kids might feel like they can't pass the test without cheating.Even when there seems to be a "good reason" for cheating, cheating isn't a good idea.
If you were sick or upset about something the night before the day and couldn't study,it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don't have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school.A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions together.Talking about these problems and working them out will make them feel better than cheating.

(1)The author thinks that when kids cheat in class,

A.it is unfair to other people
B.it does harm to their health
            C.teachers should punish them
D.teachers shouldn't stop them at once
(2)Many people like cheating because they think

A.the material in the test is very difficult
B.they want to do better than the others
C.cheating can make hard things seem very easy
D.they have little time to study their lessons
(3)The fourth paragraph mainly tells us

A.some kids can't pass the test without cheating
B.why kids cheat in the test
            C.cheating isn't a good idea
D.some kids don't spend the time studying
(4)We can learn from the passage that

A.cheaters are often thought highly of
B.people show no respect for those who cheat
C.parents whose kids cheat are often in trouble
D.kids cheat in the test because of swim practice
