          • 1.    Jinli Street in Chengdu,Sichuan Province has recently been chosen as one of the world's most beautiful streets by CNN Travel.Altogether 21 are chosen, including Convent Avenue in New York City, the U.S.,Flask Walk in London,England, and the Philosopher's Walk in Kyoto,Japan.
Jinli Street is located to the east of the Wuhou Temple, the most famous Three Kingdoms Period relic museum in China. It's recorded that as early as the Qin Dynasty,Jinli Street was the most famous place for baldachin—a rich cloth. And it was one of the busiest commercial areas during the Shu Kingdom, when it was known as the "First Street of the Shu Kingdom".In order to bring back its prosperity of former days,it was rebuilt and was opened to the public in October of 2004.Since then, visitors from home and abroad have come here to relax, admire the traditional-style buildings, and taste local snacks.
The street winds through Chengdu for a length of 350 meters.By mixing the culture of the Three Kingdoms Period with local customs of Sichuan, the buildings on both sides including teahouses, stores and hotels, which look pleasingly historic, are modeled on the architectural style of a traditional old town in western Sichuan Province from the Qing Dynasty.
Walking down the street, you will find many old-world stores. All of these stores have their own style but also have one thing in common:no matter how busy the place is,the stores are peaceful and relaxing. Most of the special local products can be found here.
Outside the stores, the stands are busier but equally attractive. You can find local artists putting on funny shows. Some traditional artworks made by skilled workmen are sold here. From these artworks, you will get a taste of the true life of local people and find something about China's past in the modern city.

From now until May 2020,he stops off at London's Saatchi Gallery. Here's a glimpse of some treasures you'll witness.
               Guardian Statue(守衛石像)
This life-sized guardian statue is one of a set of two that watched over the entrance to Tut's burial chamber(墓室),and was one of the first things Carter saw upon entering the tomb. It's their eyes that immediately draw your attention. They never seem to be looking directly at you, because the statues were made for the afterlife, meaning they need to be looking farther than our world. It's one of the objects that have left Cairo for the first time and one that the exhibition's organizers refer to as "a big win".
               Coffinite
You might be surprised to learn that organs were dealt with separately during the process of making mummies in ancient Egypt. Each organ had a specially designated case in order to protect it on the way to the next world.King Tut was no different and this beautiful, gold coffinite was designed to store the young Pharaoh's liver.

            A.In Egypt.

          • 4.The government's top Great Barrier Reef scientist says a third mass coral bleaching(珊瑚白化)event in five years is a clear signal that the marine wonder is "calling for urgent help on climate change".Corals can recover from mild bleaching, but severe bleaching can kill corals.
Prof Terry Hughes, director of the Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University, surveyed 1,036 reefs from a plane over nine days in late March.
The marine park authority also had an observer on the flights. The survey has released maps showing that serious levels of bleaching occurred in 2020 in all three sections of the reef northern, central and southern. Some 25% of the reefs were seriously bleached-meaning that more than 60% of the corals on each reef had bleached.
The Great Barrier Reel has experienced five mass bleaching events-1998.2002,2016,2017 and 2020 -all caused by rising ocean temperatures driven by global heating.Hughes said there probably would not be the same level of coral death in the north and central regions in 2020 as in previous years, but this was partly because previous bleaching outbreaks had kill off the less heat -tolerant species The 2020 bleaching was second only to 2016 for severity(嚴重性),Hughes said.
Dr.David Wachenfeld, chief scientist at the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority told Guardian Australia, "My greatest fear is that people will lose hope for the reef.Without hope there's no action.People need to see these bleaching events. They are clear signals that the Great Barrier Reef is calling for urgent help and for us to do everything we can".
Measures to improve the ability of recovery of the reef include improving water quality, controlling outbreaks of coral-eating starfish, and research and development to improve the heat tolerance of corals. "However, climate change brings a new scale of impact unlike anything we have seen before. Thus, dealing with the climate problem is the basis for everything else to work, " Wachenfeld said.

            B.Strong.
            C.Steady.
            D.Slight.
            (2)What can we learn from Paragraphs 2 & 3?

C.The 2020 bleaching killed off the less heat tolerant species.

          • 5.The Spotlight Effect Have you ever felt as if the entire world was watching while you made a mistake?Well, here's some good news:it's likely that no one even noticed.
               (1)
We have this experience not only when we make mistakes but also when we perform well.Every time we do something that is a little different from what we usually do,we may assume that everyone around us will notice. The spotlight effect might happen when we make a mistake in a game, have a bad hair day,or give a terrible answer in class.(2)
In these moments,it feels like everyone is watching.
The spotlight effect exists because we all get used to seeing things through our own eyes.Every person is the main character in his or her story, and the events of our lives seem to have great importance.(3)

The spotlight effect is a very common part of the human experience. However,in some cases,it can lead to extreme social anxiety and nervousness around other people.Everyone suffers some degree of social anxiety. We all care about what others think, and we all want to be liked. It's normal to wonder about what effect we have on other people.(4)
If someone is so nervous that they can't make good decisions, then it's time to take action and improve the situation.
Learning about the spotlight effect is important because it can help us reduce our anxiety.Next time you feel like everyone is staring at you, remind yourself that it's just your mind playing tricks on you.(5)
If you fill your mind with thoughts of your friends and family,it will help you be less self-conscious.

A.However, this can be a problem when the anxiety is too much to handle.
B.That's why fewer people notice the embarrassing circumstances they encounter.
C.Another good exercise is to make an effort to notice the people around you, rather than focusing on yourself.
D.The spotlight effect is a trick of the mind that makes us believe that people notice us more often than they really do.
E.What you can do at this moment is to ignore them.
F.We are so busy examining ourselves that we actually observe very little about everyone around us.
G.It can also appear when we score a big goal, ask someone on a date,or do a good deed.

During the summer before Patty entered fifth grade, she decided to try a new sport.Swim training was nearly over and Patty was the fastest swimmer in her age group. She had always been the best. The neighborhood was offering a one-week tennis training course.Patty and her friend Darla got permission from their parents to join.
On Saturday morning,Darla's mom took the girls to a store and bought them each a good, used tennis racket. "If you girls stick to tennis, then we'll talk about a new racket. These will do for now." The girls were excited about their new purchases. On Monday morning,at 7:00 a.m.,Patty's mom woke her up. "It's time for tennis!" Patty covered her face. "Mom,it's too early!" She made great effort to get out of bed and down to the breakfast table.Patty finished breakfast and ran to Darla's house, then they walked to the court.
Mrs.Cane, the tennis coach, lined everyone up and started with the basics. After that,Mrs.Cane tirelessly taught them to practice their forehand and backhand.By the end of the week,Patty had made impressive progress.Mrs.Cane commented that Patty had lots of potential.Darla,on the other hand, was struggling. The other teenagers were having a tough time of it,too.Patty was the only one who seemed to get somewhere.
Since then,Darla had always been out in the August heat, practicing her serves or hitting the ball.Patty wasn't really interested. She felt she was such a "natural" for tennis that she really didn't need to practice.By the end of the summer,Darla began to get the hang of it.She joined a neighborhood junior tennis team. There would be matches every Thursday.Patty wanted to join as well, but she didn't want to miss her favorite TV show. She told herself that she would join it when she got some free time.If Darla had fun,she would join the team in the spring.
