          • 11.You've heard that plastic is polluting the ocean—between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes enter ocean ecosystems every year. But does one plastic straw or cup really make a difference?Artist Benjamin Von Wong wants you to know that it does.He builds massive sculptures out of plastic garbage, forcing viewers to re-examine their relationship to single-use plastic products.
At the beginning of the year, the artist built a piece called "Strawpocalypse," a pair of 10-foot-tall plastic waves, frozen mid-crash.Made of 168,000 plastic straws collected from several volunteer beach cleanups, the sculpture made its first appearance at the Estella Place shopping center in Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam.
Just 9% of global plastic waste is recycled.Plastic straws are by no means the biggest source(來源)of plastic pollution, but they've recently come under fire because most people don't need them to drink with and, because of their small size and weight, they cannot be recycled.Every straw that's part of Von Wong's artwork likely came from a drink that someone used for only a few minutes.Once the drink is gone, the straw will take centuries to disappear.
In a piece from 2018,Von Wong wanted to illustrate(說明)a specific statistic:Every 60 seconds,a truckload's worth of plastic enters the ocean. For this work, titled "Truckload of Plastic," Von Wong and a group of volunteers collected more than 10,000 pieces of plastic, which were then tied together to look like they'd been dumped(傾倒) from a truck all at once.
Von Wong hopes that his work will also help pressure big companies to reduce their plastic footprint.

(1)What are Von Wong's artworks intended for?

A.Beautifying the city he lives in.
            B.Introducing eco-friendly products.

          • 13.    ON TUESDAY,the Shenzhen team of Blue Sky Rescue, confirmed (確認) that two of its members had died trying to rescue 24 tourists.
According to the official news,it was on Monday that the rescue team received a call from 24 travelers, who were trapped,in a river valley.
The team responded immediately. However, when they helped the travelers, two team members got trapped by the rising river water. The next day, they were confirmed dead.
Who can rescue the rescuers? The question aroused a heated discussion among people. Most of them think we would rather such "heroic deeds" were not required. In the past several years, there have been many cases in which travelers, ignoring the signs saying certain areas are dangerous and off-limits (禁止進入的),ended up needing to be rescued.By so doing, they put not only their own lives at risk but also the lives of those who go to their aid.
Although the majority of travelers behave properly, some attempt challenging tasks that are obviously beyond their abilities.
The law has already made it clear that if a traveler or group gets into difficulties when entering unauthorized (未經許可的) regions, they must bear the costs of the rescue. The rules need strengthening to deter travelers from putting their own lives and the lives of others at risk.

(1)How many travellers were trapped in a river valley?

            A.24.
            B.2.
            C.42.
            D.26.
(2)What happened to the two rescue workers?

            A.They lost her way.
B.They were trapped on the mountain.
C.They died in the rescue work.
            D.They were seriously injured.
(3)What is the writer's attitude towards some tourists?

            A.Caring.
            B.Negative.
            C.Understanding.
            D.Positive.
(4)What does the underlined phrase deter…from in the last paragraph mean?

            A.protect…from

Sam Watts was a 37-year-old fisherman living and working in Canada. One day,Sam planned to head out into the Pacific at 9 am and work straight through until 5 pm the next day.Joining Sam would be his crewman (船員),24-year-old Pom Ruck.
Although Sam had been warned that a storm was coming, there was little that would keep him from going. As he sailed through the waves about 120 kilometres from land,Sam let out his three-kilometre-long fishing line. The storm was gaining strength on land but had yet to reach the men far offshore(離岸的).After a while, that changed around where he was.Waves rocked the small boat, which began to turn sideways like an amusement park ride, "Get us out of here!" Tom screamed to Sam. "Let's go back!"
With the winds and waves kicking up,the boat began to fill with water.Sam and Tom tried to pull in the ?fishing line together, but the high waves filled the boat with more water, forcing Sam to make a hard decision. He cut the line, losing thousands of dollars worth of equipment and fish in the sea.He then pointed the boat towards a port five hours away.Sam then called his boss,William Fox,to report his position.
With dawn coming,Sam spotted the rise of the mountains on the horizon(地平線).He was figuring out a route through the dangerous waters when suddenly the motor stopped. "I couldn't believe it," Sam said. "We were 24 kilometres off the coast, and the motor died. " High waves raised and dropped the boat, sending the men crashing into the sides. "William,William!" Sam yelled into the radio. "If you're coming to get me,come now!"
               "We're coming!" William shouted back.
            Paragraph 1:
Shortly after, the radio died and the wind continued to blow straight offshore, driving the men farther out to sea._________
            Paragraph 2 :
The next morning,Sam spotted a fishing boat in the distance.__________
