2.I was once a Chinese TV star.Actually,I'm neither Chinese nor a star, but for two seasons,I was the French voice of one of the major characters in a famous Chinese soap opera.
China has put a lot of effort into sharing its culture with the world.Chinese movies and TV shows have been translated into various languages. As a result, dubbing(配音)jobs in China have increased greatly over the years.
I landed my first dubbing job without having any previous experience, something that would be impossible in France. As I entered the tiny recording studio,I pretended to know how to dub, feeling more than ever like a fraud.I didn't speak Chinese,so how could I know when a sentence ended?I managed to control my shaking hands, and tried my best to match the French text with the Chinese lips. Finally, they asked me to try again, with more emotion this time. And so I did.To my surprise,I secured my first role.
Once I was in the database,I got offered roles every now and then.I really started enjoying the Chinese soap operjye.ai.As the shows helped me to better understand the Chinese family and the relationships between young people in China,I realized I was able to have deeper conversations with my Chinese friends.
And so I discovered that dubbing is not a job that stays in the office;it becomes part of you.Not only because of what other people think, but because of what you share with the character. When my character once believed her mother had killed herself,I couldn't help crying.I left the studio and immediately called my mom,and I believe that was the nicest call I ever made to her. This might sound silly,I know, but I will miss "her".Our one-way relationship was as fictional as she was,but the emotions were real.
(1)Why did dubbing jobs in China increase quickly?
A.China has various cultures to record.
B.China has set up many cultural companies.
C.China has developed very fast in recent years.
D.China encourages TV shows to spread its culture.
(2)What does the underlined word "fraud" in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Actress.
B.Cheater.
C.Foreigner.
D.Director.
(3)What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A.The author's Chinese friends help her a lot.
B.Soap operas spread Chinese culture widely.
C.Dubbing in soap operas helps the author a lot.
D.The author likes Chinese soap operas very much.
(4)What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.My Dubbing Experience in China.
B.Dubbing,an interesting job.
C.Dubbing in China.
D.My first success.組卷:4引用:2難度:0.5 -
3.It happened to me recently.I was telling someone how much I had enjoyed reading Barack Obama's Dreams From My Father and how it had changed my views of our President.A friend I was talking to agreed with me that it was,in his words,"a brilliantly(精彩地)written book".However,he then went on to talk about Mr Obama in a way which suggested he had no idea of his background at all.I sensed that I was talking to a book liar.
And it seems that my friend is not the only one.Approximately two thirds of people have lied about reading a book which they haven't.In the World Book Day's"Report on Guilty Secrets",Dreams From My Father is at number 9.The report lists ten books, and various authors, which people have lied about reading, and as I'm not one to lie too often (I'd hate to be caught out),I'll admit here and now that I haven't read the entire top ten.But I am pleased to say that, unlike 42 percent of people,I have read the book at number one,George Orwell's 1984.I think it's really brilliant.
The World Book Day report also has some other interesting information in it.It says that many people lie about having read Jane Austen,Charles Dickens,Fyodor Dostoevsky (I haven't read him,but haven't lied about it either) and Herman Melville.
Asked why they lied, the most common reason was to"impress"someone they were speaking to.This could be tricky if the conversation became more in depth!
But when asked which authors they actually enjoy, people named J.K.Rowling,John Grisham,Sophie Kinsella (ah,the big sellers,in other words).Fortytwo percent of people asked admitted they turned to the back of the book to read the end before finishing the story (I'll come clean:I do this and am astonished that 58 percent said they had never done so).
(1)How did the author find his friend a book liar?
A.By judging his manner of speaking.
B.By looking into his background.
C.By mentioning a famous name.
D.By discussing the book itself.
(2)Which of the following is a"guilty secret"according to the World Book Day report?
A.Charles Dickens is very low on the topten list.
B.42% of people pretended to have read 1984.
C.The author admitted having read 9 books.
D.Dreams From My Father is hardly read.
(3)By lying about reading,a person hopes to
A.control the conversation
B.appear knowledgeable
C.learn about the book
D.make more friends
(4)What is the author's attitude to 58% of readers?
A.Favorable.
B.Uncaring.
C.Doubtful.
D.Friendly.組卷:17引用:8難度:0.7 -
4.Are you sometimes a little tired and sleepy in the early afternoon? Many people feel this way after lunch. They may think that eating lunch is the cause of the sleepiness.Or,in summer, they may think it is the heat. However, the real reason lies inside their bodies. At that time-about eight hours after you wake up-your body temperature goes down. This is what makes you slow down and feel sleepy.Scientists have tested sleep habits in experiments where there was no night or day.The people in these experiments almost always followed a similar sleeping pattern. They slept for one long period and then for one short period about eight hours later.
In many parts of the world, people take naps in the middle of the day. This is especially true in warmer climates, where the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon.Researchers are now saying that naps are good for everyone in any climate.A daily nap gives one a more rested body and mind and therefore is good for health in general. In countries where naps are traditional, people often suffer less from problems such as heart disease. Many working people, unfortunately, have no time to take naps.Though doctors may advise taking naps, employers do not allow it!If you do have the chance, however, here are a few tips about making the most of your nap.Remember that the best time to take a nap is about eight hours after you get up.A short sleep too late in the day may only make you feel more tired and sleepy afterward. This can also happen if you sleep for too long.If you do not have enough time, try a short nap-even ten minutes of sleep can be helpful.
(1)Why do you sometimes feel sleepy in the early afternoon?
A.Because you eat too much for lunch.
B.Because it's hot in summer.
C.Because your body temperature goes down at that time.
D.Because you didn't have a good sleep last night.
(2)What can we learn about "naps" according to the last paragraph?
A.All the people in warmer climates take naps in the middle of the day.
B.Doctors need to take naps while employers don't.
C.If you take naps every day, you'll never suffer from heart disease.
D.Taking naps regularly is good to people's health.

9.On a winter morning,we piled into our car and headed out to the county kennel(養狗場),We were going to get a dog.I pressed my nose against the car window and wondered what he would be like.Would he shake hands, roll over and run after little animals in the woods? Each passing fence post drew me nearer to my dream dog.
As our family walked into the kennel, among the chaos and noise.silence caught my eye.He was sitting quietly and confidently in a corner cage. When I approached,he lifted one of his feet between the bars, and I touched it carefully.A handwritten sign at the top of his cage read,"Shepherd(牧羊犬)".Ten minutes later,he was sitting in the back seat of our car.
"His name is Fritz,"my mother announced that night as we put a dog collar around his neck with our phone number and bis name on it.Fritz adjusted quickly to life in his new home.Whenever guests arrived,he would run out to greet them. When we took our afternoon walks,he was a cheerful companion. The highlight of his day was when I came back, racing through the front door after school. He would slide through the entryway and then jump into my arms as if he had just won a great prize.
One Friday afternoon,my father declared that we were going out for the night. Each year we took a journey across the mountains to his hometown of Knoxville,Kentucky, for a day of sightseeing. As we loaded up the car,my father told me that the hotel where we would be staying did not allow dogs in.Therefore,Fritz wasn't going with us.
As our car pulled away,Fritz watched from the edge of the yard with his tail waving quickly,as if to say,"Why are you leaving me alone?"Anyway,we set out.The next day when we came back home,it was already 6 pm.
